Abstract

In a comparison with a linguistics scholar, Giorgio Raimondo Cardona, who was very close to him through friendship and shared projects, ideas, research and teaching practices, Armando Petrucci is presented as a historical anthropologist of written culture. «To grasp the living», according to Marc Bloch's splendid formula, is the aim of the historian, the anthropologist, the palaeographer, in sum of scholars with a mercurial and volcanic nature like Petrucci and Cardona: to try to perceive, still pulsating after centuries of stillness and silence, the «quiver of human life» that keeps alive the spirit of those who left a written trace, a tangible sign of their existence in history.
